Physiotherapy
Using Thermotherapy ( Heat ) or Cryotherapy ( Ice ) is necessary to manage pain or when an injury to the body occurs. However, there are a lot of confusion as to what you should apply and when.
When to use Heat ?
In general, heat (a.k.a Thermotherapy) is used to treat chronic pain. It is used to help relax the muscles and stiff joints as well as heal damaged tissues. Thermotherapy also helps by increasing the temperature, thus improves circulation and blood flow to the specific area.

When to use Ice ?
Ice (a.k.a Cryotherapy) is mainly used to treat acute pain and new injuries. It is targeted to reduce the circulation and blood flow to the area which can significantly reduce swelling and inflammation. By applying ice, it helps to dull and numb the pain to the particular area by temporarily reducing the nerve activity, and thus relieves the pain. Cold therapy should be applied as soon as possible right after an injury for 15 to 20 mins, but not longer than 20 minutes.
